Support Freedom of the Internet

UPDATE (Burp Burp!): This Update now participates in the Internet Defense League (IDL). If your net freedom is ever threatened, an emergency banner will be displayed at the top of the blog.

In 1980, CERN researcher Sir Tim Berners-Lee began a project based on the interaction of databases. Thirty-Two years later, the Internet is perhaps the most influential piece of technology we have. It has become a virtual Rome -- the modern center for sales, entertainment and the discussions of opinion.

But like Rome, the Internet may soon see dark days. Politicians are trying to control the once free Internet. The House and Senate are trying to pass acts that will allow the censorship of the Internet. Such acts would create provisions for wiretapping of computers, unwarranted searches of hard drives and bans from the internet. Mr. McCarthy himself would be proud of this Red Scare-esque political movement.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is an organization the fights for our rights to free use of the Internet. It has been fighting for our digital rights since 1990 and will continue to do so.

We must take a stand against the evil politicians who threaten our freedom. The same way we did against the English Crown in 1776. The same way we did for civil rights in 1956. And the same way we must in 2012 against the men and women of Washington who want to threaten our First and Fourth amendment rights.

The Hillel Update, as a blog, proudly supports retaining the rights we already have, and should continue to have. Please support the EFF. Please support freedom.
